Impressive Ida Lake Home Shows Off Wood Interior, Hilltop Setting
Putter around rural Park Rapids and it’s impossible to avoid sleepy, little resort communities, ma-and-pa shops and blissful backroads. It’s the perfect setting for an impressive log cabin on a hill, up Grandview Drive, just north of a miniature town called Dorset. Side note: When the season is right, stop in for what is unexpectedly a fantastic Mexican dining experience at Compañeros. But winter is upon us, so we hustle to the cabin on Ida Lake. More about that …
Turn up the blacktop drive and walk around to the backyard where the scene is unique. A motorized hill climber and its tracks carve a tunnel under the tree canopy and emerge at peaceful Ida Lake. Tucked between greater Big Sand and Little Sand Lakes, Ida is the quiet transition zone from which these three lakes are waterway accessible and where this cabin hides among the trees. Blaze-orange Maples, Tamarac swamps and the distant buzz of a chainsaw set the scene for a perfect yet fleeting autumn day on along the lake.
That’s the waning type of weather suitable for the last few fall campfires, and quite fitting for this backyard setup. A built-in campfire ring and upright, stone fireplace fit the landscaping that connects to the walkout lower level and garage. Take the full, 3D walkthrough tour here and see for yourself!
Perhaps the most memorable feature is the towering vaulted ceiling in the kitchen and main living area. Knotty pine and other accents of wood trim and cabinetry define much of the interior throughout the home. Large walk-in closets, three walk-out points to the deck, an awesome claw-foot tub and a central vacuum system also stand out as key features.
